Balearic Islands, the Caribbean in the Mediterranean

Location: The Balearic Islands are located in the Mediterranean Sea right off the coast of Valencia. It consists of four large islands, Formentera, Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca, along with others that are not inhabited.

Municipalities: Formed by a few hundred municipalities where the most important are the capitals of the Islands. Until the arrival of tourists in the 1970s, the Islands based its economy on agriculture and livestock. It is currently the second largest autonomous community in terms of tourists.

What to see? The Balearic Islands have the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean with a turquoise ocean reminiscent of the Caribbean. Tourists can also enjoy the best parties in Ibiza, or hike in beautiful nature, for example on the Serra de Tramuntana.

What to eat? The cuisine of the Balearic Islands is mainly Mediterranean with dishes made with products from the Islands. Enjoy sausages as sobrasada or dishes such as the Coca de Trampó.

How to get there? Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca airports have numerous flights throughout the year to different parts of Spain and Europe. You can also reached the islands by boat from Denia and Barcelona. The roads are in very good condition.
